A woman and her minor son were brutally murdered in Karuthanur near Omalur on Thursday night. The deceased have been identified as R Sathya, 33, and her son Kishanth, 10, residents of Karuthanur. Sathya was separated from her husband Rajkumar and worked at a private TV showroom in Omalur.
The accused, identified as Sakthivel, 35, from the same locality, allegedly entered the house and attacked the woman and her son with a sickle. According to a police official from Omalur station, preliminary inquiry revealed that Sakthivel was acquainted with Sathya. After the attack, Sakthivel died by suicide at his home, and police retrieved his body.
Kishanth died on the way to Omalur Government Hospital, while Sathya succumbed to her injuries at Salem Government Hospital. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
