Brave Woman Fights Off Train Snatchers, Suffers Severe Injuries
A 45-year-old woman from Midnapore remains in critical condition after heroically fighting off two snatchers aboard the Howrah-Puri Dhauli Express on Sunday. Surama Hajra demonstrated extraordinary courage when two men attempted to steal her bag and chain during the journey.
The Terrifying Ordeal Unfolds
The incident occurred near Bhogpur station in East Midnapore when Samsad Mohammad and Mohammad Imran targeted Hajra. As the snatchers tried to grab her belongings, they violently shoved her off the moving train. Despite being pushed, Hajra displayed remarkable presence of mind and held onto the door handrail with all her strength.
Her determination to survive came at a terrible cost. During the struggle, her right arm was partially severed and sustained severe injuries. She maintained her grip until rescuers could safely bring her to safety, showing incredible resilience in the face of life-threatening danger.
Swift Medical Response and Police Action
Recognizing the gravity of her injuries, state police facilitated a green corridor to ensure Hajra's rapid transfer to SSKM Hospital's trauma care centre in Kolkata. This emergency measure allowed medical teams to begin treatment without delay, potentially saving her life.
Debashree Sanyal, SRP of Kharagpur Div GRP, confirmed that both suspects have been arrested and charged with attempt to murder. The police have taken the case extremely seriously, reflecting the severity of the crime committed against the brave passenger.

Medical authorities at SSKM Hospital report that Hajra remains under constant monitoring at the trauma care centre. Her condition continues to be critical as doctors work to treat the extensive injuries she sustained during the attack.
