Tragic Suicide in Rohtas: Woman Dies with Children After Husband's Murder
In a heart-wrenching incident in Rohtas district, a woman allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday after consuming poison along with her two minor children. The tragedy is linked to her inability to cope with the trauma of her husband's recent murder and ongoing threats from the accused.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in Muradabad under the Mufassil police station area. The deceased has been identified as Reshma Khatoon. Late Monday night, she, along with her four-year-old daughter Taiyba and one-and-a-half-year-old son Hamzad, allegedly consumed poison at their residence.
On Tuesday morning, neighbors grew suspicious due to a lack of movement inside the house for an extended period and intervened. They found the three unconscious and immediately rushed them to a private clinic in Raj Colony, Sasaram.
Medical Response and Outcome
As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to Varanasi for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, Reshma Khatoon later succumbed to the poisoning. Her two children are currently fighting for their lives in critical condition. Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar has confirmed Reshma's death.
Dr. Chitranjan Singh, who initially treated Reshma and her children at the private clinic, stated that the three had consumed pesticide, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Background: Husband's Brutal Murder
This tragic event follows just days after the murder of Reshma's husband, Hasan Raza Khan, who was lynched on March 24 over a land dispute on a state highway. Reports indicate that the assailants tied his hands and legs with ropes, dragged him on the highway, and brutally beat him to death in full public view.
The entire incident was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, drawing significant public attention and outrage.
Police Investigation and Threats
So far, four out of eight accused have been arrested in connection with the murder. Family members have alleged that they were living under constant fear and receiving threats from the remaining accused. Shockingly, even the person who recorded the video of the incident has reportedly been threatened.
The extreme step taken by Reshma is being directly linked to the mental trauma and fear following her husband's murder and the subsequent threats. SP Roshan Kumar mentioned that arrest warrants have been obtained for the remaining accused, and efforts are underway to apprehend them to ensure justice and safety.
This case underscores the devastating impact of violent crimes and the urgent need for psychological support and legal protection for affected families in such traumatic situations.
