A young woman has lost her life in a shocking incident of alleged honour killing in Karnataka's Dharwad district. The victim, identified as 20-year-old Manya Patil, succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal assault in Inam Veerapur village.
Details of the Fatal Assault
According to Dharwad Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya, the violent attack occurred around 6:30 pm on Monday. The police official confirmed that Manya was struck with a pipe during the assault, which proved fatal. "A lady named Manya, around 20 years of age, succumbed to the injuries. Allegedly, three people have committed the assault. We are still enquiring," stated SP Arya.
Injured Family Members and Arrests Made
The violence was not limited to the victim. Three other family members also sustained injuries in the attack. The injured include Manya's mother-in-law, father-in-law, and a sister. Police have moved swiftly and made three arrests in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Prakash, Veeran, and Arun.
Preliminary investigations suggest the tragic incident followed some altercation related to a marriage. However, SP Gunjan Arya noted that no major formal complaints had been reported from the parties involved prior to this extreme violence.
