COIMBATORE: A 55-year-old woman was drugged and robbed of her gold jewellery by a fellow woman passenger on a bus traveling from Erode to Coimbatore on Monday morning. The incident has left the victim's family in shock and prompted a police investigation.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as R Lakshmi, a resident of Ganapathy, boarded the bus in Erode around 11 am. During the journey, an unidentified woman, believed to be about 50 years old, sat next to her and offered her a piece of chocolate. Lakshmi initially declined, but the woman persistently insisted. Eventually, Lakshmi accepted and ate half of the chocolate, discarding the rest after noticing it was unusually sticky.
Shortly after, the suspect gave Lakshmi water to drink. Upon consuming the water, Lakshmi lost consciousness. Police suspect that the woman took advantage of the situation, snatched Lakshmi's gold chain, and exited the bus before it reached its destination.

When the bus arrived at its destination in Coimbatore, the crew found Lakshmi unconscious. They immediately rushed her to a private hospital on Avinashi Road for treatment. Medical personnel attended to her, and she later regained consciousness. A complaint was filed by Lakshmi's son, leading the Peelamedu police to register a case and launch an investigation to trace the suspect.
Police Investigation
The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the bus and surrounding areas to identify the suspect. They have also taken statements from the bus crew and other passengers. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward. The incident highlights the need for vigilance while traveling, especially when accepting food or drinks from strangers.
This case serves as a reminder for passengers to be cautious and report suspicious behavior to bus staff or authorities immediately.
