A 25-year-old married woman was discovered dead in Maharashtra's Kalyan city, leading police to initiate a search for her father, who is currently absconding, an official stated on Tuesday.
Victim and Incident Details
The deceased has been identified as Gayatri Shinde. Her body was found inside her family's flat in the Parekarwada area of Kalyan (West) on Monday evening. Investigators suspect her father, Vinod Vasaikar, who is evading capture, of being involved in the killing.
According to police records, Gayatri married Akshay Shinde, a resident of Bhiwandi taluka, in November 2025. She had recently moved to her parents' home. Family members reported that there had been no visible tension or dispute prior to the incident.
Sequence of Events
The family had gone out together on Sunday to watch a film and later visited the nearby Kala Talav area. The situation appeared normal until Monday night, when Gayatri's mother returned home from work and found the apartment door unlocked. She discovered her daughter lying in a pool of blood inside the house and immediately informed relatives and the police.
A preliminary medical examination suggested that the victim was attacked with a sharp object, suffering a fatal injury to the forehead.
Investigation and Evidence
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the residential building, which allegedly shows Vinod Vasaikar returning home unexpectedly on Monday morning and leaving the premises in a hurry at around 4 pm. A murder case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's husband. Police stated that the motive behind the crime remains unclear, as relatives have denied any recent arguments or provocation.
Multiple police teams have been formed to trace the suspect. Investigators continue to examine all possible angles, including family-related issues and the mental condition of the accused.
