A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Ambehta town on Monday, where a 56-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit at her residence. The police suspect that the assailants entered the house with the intention of committing theft and killed the woman to avoid being identified.
Victim Identified
The victim has been identified as Poonam Mittal, a resident of Ambehta in Saharanpur district. Her husband, Sanjay Mittal, a local trader, discovered her body when he returned home from his shop in the town's main market around 4 pm. He had been unable to contact her despite making several phone calls.
Scene of the Crime
Upon arriving home, Sanjay found Poonam lying on a bed in a pool of blood. Household belongings were scattered across the house, and items from an almirah were strewn around the room, indicating a possible struggle or ransacking.
Station House Officer (SHO) Devesh Kumar Sharma stated, "Trader Sanjay Mittal and his wife Poonam lived together. Their son and daughter-in-law run a business in Muzaffarnagar."
Investigation Underway
A police team from Nakur police station, along with forensic experts, reached the spot and began a thorough investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and questioning local residents to gather clues about the assailants.
SHO Sharma added, "It is suspected that the assailants entered the house with the intention of theft and killed the woman to avoid getting identified." The police are working to piece together the events leading up to the murder.
Public Outrage
The killing sparked anger among traders in the town, who gathered at the victim's residence and demanded swift action against those responsible. Many shopkeepers shut their establishments in protest and called for the immediate arrest of the accused. The community is in shock and seeking justice for Poonam Mittal.
