A woman and her alleged paramour have been arrested for attempting to burn her husband alive in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district, police confirmed on Monday. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Rajiv, was discovered in a severely burnt condition at his residence on Saturday night and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Meerut.
Incident Details and Arrests
According to Binauli Station House Officer Rakesh Kumar Sharma, the case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's father, Satbir Kashyap, against his daughter-in-law Neeshu and a fellow villager, Vikrant. The complaint alleges that Neeshu was involved in an extramarital relationship with Vikrant, which Rajiv had opposed. On Saturday night, Neeshu allegedly summoned Vikrant to the house, where they poured petrol on Rajiv while he slept and set him on fire.
Following the attack, Vikrant reportedly fled through the roof and later threatened to kill Rajiv after he survived, according to the complaint. The SHO stated that Rajiv, in his statement to police, also accused his wife and Vikrant of attempting to murder him by setting him ablaze.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint and preliminary investigation. Both accused have been arrested and are being produced before the court for further legal proceedings. Sharma confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Rajiv remains hospitalized with severe burn injuries, and his condition is reported to be critical. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting issues of domestic violence and marital infidelity.
