Three individuals from Uttar Pradesh have been arrested by Solan police for allegedly attempting to murder a woman by pushing her into a gorge near Nagali village on the Solan-Dharampur road. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, and the accused were apprehended within half an hour, according to Superintendent of Police Solan Sai Dattatreya Varma.
Incident Details
The Saproon police station received information about the attack, prompting a team to rush to the scene. By the time they arrived, the suspects had fled but were soon caught near Nagali village on the Solan-Dharampur highway. Eyewitness Naresh Kumar played a crucial role in reporting the crime. While driving back to village Galog from Deoghat around 8:15 pm, he noticed three youths and a woman near the Panch Parmeshwar temple. One youth was holding the woman, and suspecting a strangulation attempt, Naresh turned his vehicle around. Upon returning, he saw the youths push the woman approximately 80-100 meters into a gorge before walking toward Nagali.
Rescue and Investigation
Police discovered blood stains on the roadside parapet during the investigation. With help from local residents, they rescued the woman, who had fallen onto a bypass road below and was found lying among bushes. She was rushed to Regional Hospital, Solan, for treatment. The arrested suspects were identified as Madan Kumar (28), Varsha (28), and Shivam (20), all residents of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. During questioning, it emerged that the victim, Monika, is the wife of accused Dalip Kumar, who allegedly conspired with his cousin Shivam and friend Madan Kumar to kill her due to a prolonged dispute. The woman was brought to Solan from Uttar Pradesh by her husband under the pretext of an excursion.
Legal Proceedings
The accused were arrested within half an hour of the incident and will be produced before a court to seek their remand. Police are also verifying their past criminal records with authorities in Uttar Pradesh, SP Varma said.
