Gumla: A 24-year-old woman from Navatoli in Simdega district was allegedly shot dead by a resident of Bihar early Saturday after her family refused his marriage proposal, police said.
Victim Identified
The deceased was identified as Jeba Praveen. According to the officer in charge of the Kolebira police station, Harsh Kumar, quoting the victim's father Md Hussain, Jeba had befriended the accused on a social media platform about a month ago. The accused, a truck driver from Vaishali district in Bihar, had been in regular contact with her.
Details of the Incident
The accused had visited Jeba's house four to five times in the past week, pressuring her to marry him. However, her family opposed the proposal due to differences in their family backgrounds. Around 4 am on Saturday, the accused allegedly entered the house when Jeba's mother stepped outside after waking up. The mother found Jeba breathing heavily with blood coming from a bullet wound on her forehead. She alerted her husband and other family members.
Medical Response and Investigation
Jeba was rushed to the Kolebira community health centre (CHC), which referred her to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi. She died en route. A search operation has been launched to arrest the accused, who is on the run.
