Woman Police Officer Caught Red-Handed in Bribery Sting
In a significant crackdown on corruption within the police force, officials from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a woman sub-inspector on Tuesday. The arrest took place in Kurnool while the officer was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. The accused has been identified as Dandagala Kiran.
The Extortion Scheme and Dowry Case Link
According to ACB officials, the case originated from a dowry harassment complaint. The wife of a man named P Sivanagi Reddy had filed a case against him and three family members. Seizing this opportunity, the accused sub-inspector allegedly threatened Reddy. She falsely claimed that a more serious attempt to murder case had been registered against him and his family.
By instilling fear of arrest and jail time, the SI initially demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000. Her offer was to avoid arresting them and to facilitate their release on station bail. Later, she negotiated the illegal amount down to Rs 30,000.
ACB Trap and Immediate Aftermath
Unwilling to succumb to the extortion, the complainant, through his wife, approached the ACB officials in Kurnool. The bureau laid a trap based on the formal complaint. ACB sleuths successfully caught the sub-inspector red-handed as she accepted the marked currency notes from the complainant.
Following her arrest, she was promptly booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Simultaneous searches were conducted at her residence and her room in the police station to gather further evidence.
The arrested police officer is slated to be produced before the special court magistrate for the ACB. This incident highlights ongoing efforts to root out corruption from public offices and serves as a stern warning to officials abusing their power.
