Shocking Discovery in Rose Garden
In a disturbing incident that has shaken Chandigarh, the body of a 30-year-old woman with her throat slit was discovered in the women's washroom of Rose Garden in Sector 16 on Saturday afternoon. The victim, identified as Diksha from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was found in critical condition before being declared dead at the hospital.
Evidence and Investigation Details
Sector 17 police recovered multiple crucial pieces of evidence from the crime scene, including the knife allegedly used to slit her throat, the victim's mobile phone, and several anti-depressant tablets found in her handbag. The investigation team, led by SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, has registered a murder case against unknown accused and is exploring all possible angles, including suicide.
The victim's identity was confirmed through a Bihar Staff Selection Commission slip found on her body. Police revealed that Diksha was married but living separately from her husband, who resides in Sarangpur, Chandigarh. She had been living in a rented accommodation in Phase 11, Mohali for the past year.
Timeline of the Incident
The tragedy unfolded when a man walking in the garden heard screams coming from the bathroom and immediately alerted traffic personnel stationed at the garden entrance. Traffic police responded promptly, asking a woman to check inside the washroom where she discovered Diksha in critical condition.
Police control room was informed at 112, and the victim was rushed to GMSH-16, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Upon receiving the information, DSP Dalbir Singh Bhinder along with SHO of Sector 17 police station and other officials reached the spot to begin investigations.
Authorities have sealed the area and are meticulously examining CCTV camera footage from nearby locations. A team from CFSL also visited the crime spot to collect evidence, while police are questioning people and staff members who were present in the park during the incident.
The victim's family from Saharanpur, UP was contacted by police and they reached Chandigarh later in the evening. The body has been kept at GMSH-16 for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
This incident marks another violent crime in Chandigarh's public gardens, following similar cases in recent years including a murder near Shivalik Garden in Manimajra on April 3, 2024, and a teenager found murdered in a Sector 44 park in March 2024.
