As many as six Rajya Sabha MPs have jointly submitted a privilege notice against Leader of Opposition in the House Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him of making "derogatory, disparaging and highly disrespectful" remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Details of the Privilege Notice
The members — Brij Lal, Mithlesh Kumar, Sumitra Balmik, Shivesh Kumar, Sikander Kumar and Nagendra Ray — in their notice stated that such remarks "lower the dignity of the Parliament and its Members." The notice was submitted under Rule 188 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha).
Chairman Refers to Committee of Privileges
Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan has referred the notice to the Committee of Privileges for examination, investigation, and report. Secretary General PC Mody confirmed, "On consideration of the facts, the Hon'ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha has referred on June 16, 2026, the matter under Rule 203 to the Committee of Privileges."
The Rajya Sabha MPs allege that Kharge's remarks were a continual and deliberate attempt to use grossly derogatory language against the Prime Minister, thereby undermining the dignity of the Parliament. The Committee of Privileges will now examine the case and submit its findings.
