Guwahati: The District Child Labour Task Force (DCLTF) of Kamrup (Metropolitan) rescued eight minors from various locations in Guwahati during a special operation on World Day Against Child Labour, which fell on Friday.
Officials from the DCLTF confirmed that the children were rescued from the Six Mile and Noonmati areas of the city.
“Four children, comprising three girls and one boy, were rescued from an apartment complex at Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed Path, where they had been employed as domestic help for over a year. The operation was conducted in the presence of a labour officer, the deputy commissioner of police, and a magistrate,” an official stated.
The children were rescued from two separate apartments and had been working for Pulin Hazarika and Abdul Mazumdar for more than a year.
In a separate incident, four minors were rescued from a garage where they had been working for periods ranging from two to six months.
“The rescued children are aged between 12 and 17 years. We have filed an FIR against the accused at the respective police stations. The children have been produced before the child welfare committee,” the official added.
On the occasion, Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta called for the eradication of child exploitation and urged residents to unite in eliminating this injustice.
