Sanjay Singh Alleges Rs 650-Crore Scam in Delhi Health Department

Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday questioned the silence surrounding an alleged Rs 650-crore scam in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi. Addressing the media, Singh accused the government of inaction despite a massive financial irregularity involving inflated costs for medicines, ORS packets, and X-ray machines.

Singh specifically named Dr Pankaj Singh, the Health Minister, and alleged that the scam was orchestrated with the involvement of Dr Vatsala Aggarwal, who was appointed in DGHS superseding 10 senior doctors. He claimed that an inquiry was already underway against Aggarwal regarding admissions to a cancer hospital.

Double-Engine Government Under Fire

Singh criticized the BJP-led double-engine government for its silence, stating that no one was questioning the administration. He contrasted this with the intense scrutiny faced by the previous AAP government in the alleged liquor policy case, where television channels and public discourse demanded resignations and severe punishments despite insufficient evidence.

Singh remarked, "Had the Aam Aadmi Party been in power, there would have been demands to dig graves for ministers." He alleged that the government first violated rules by appointing Aggarwal and then initiated the procurement scam.

Comparison with Liquor Policy Case

Singh recalled that in the liquor policy case against the AAP government led by Arvind Kejriwal, the court observed insufficient evidence to begin a trial and directed action against officials who initiated the case. Yet, he noted, the media and public discourse were dominated by heated debates and calls for severe action.

According to Singh, the current scam is not ordinary but a mega scam, and the lack of action reflects a double standard. He urged for a thorough investigation and accountability.
