AAP Dismisses Forensic Report as Politically Motivated
Punjab AAP president Aman Arora on Tuesday rejected the forensic report submitted by the Gurugram police regarding a purported video showing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann engaging in blasphemous acts. Arora asserted that Haryana is governed by the BJP and that the state police operate under the party's influence, casting doubt on the impartiality of the investigation.
Arora Questions Investigation's Scope
Speaking to reporters, Arora said, “They can do whatever they want, initiate any inquiry they choose and make any allegation they wish. If the BJP is genuinely interested in uncovering the truth, why is it not investigating who created this video, who acted in it, who financed it and who was responsible for circulating it?” He emphasized that the AAP government in Punjab had no role in the forensic analysis, which was conducted in a lab outside the state.
Forensic Lab Choice Raises Eyebrows
Arora pointed out that if the BJP-led Haryana government sought a favorable outcome, the forensic examination could have been conducted in any lab within Punjab, where the AAP controls law and order. “The fact that it was not done clearly shows that the aim was to obtain an impartial assessment of the video,” he said, suggesting that the choice of lab was intended to ensure credibility.
Political Context and Allegations
The video, which surfaced earlier this month, allegedly shows Mann in a compromising position, sparking outrage among opposition parties. The Gurugram police registered a case and sent the video for forensic analysis. The report, submitted on Monday, reportedly confirmed the video's authenticity, but the AAP has dismissed it as a conspiracy by the BJP to defame Mann ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections.
AAP Demands Independent Probe
Arora called for a thorough investigation by a neutral agency, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation, to trace the origin and funding of the video. He accused the BJP of using state machinery to target political opponents and reiterated that the AAP would not be intimidated by what he termed a “fake” forensic report.
