Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to embark on a significant two-day visit to Assam starting Thursday, where he will roll out multiple government projects and address a crucial public rally. This strategic tour comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, highlighting the BJP's focus on development and outreach in the region.
Arrival and Initial Engagements
Shah will arrive at Dibrugarh airport on Thursday evening and stay overnight at the Manohari Resort in Upper Assam. Upon arrival, he will meet with senior BJP leaders to discuss poll strategies for the impending Assembly elections, underscoring the political importance of this visit. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the party's campaign and addressing key voter concerns.
Major Project Inaugurations in Dibrugarh
On Friday at 11 am, Shah will lay the foundation stone for the second complex of the Assam Assembly in Dibrugarh town. This ambitious project, with a total cost of Rs 284 crore, will include an assembly building, an MLA hostel, an 800-capacity auditorium, and a 400-capacity barracks. According to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the construction is slated for completion within the next 30 months, promising enhanced infrastructure for legislative activities.
Modern Sports Complex Launch
In a boost to sports infrastructure, Shah will inaugurate the first phase of a modern multi-disciplinary sports complex in Dibrugarh. This phase, built at a cost of Rs 238 crore, features an indoor stadium, swimming pool, football field, main gallery, tennis court, volleyball court, basketball court, and hostels. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for the second phase, which will add public seating for 30,000 people, a central playground, athletic track, and lifts, with an estimated cost of Rs 209 crore.
Wildlife Health and Research Institute
Another key initiative is the foundation stone laying for the Institute of Wildlife Health and Research at Dinjan in the district. This institute aims to advance research and diagnostic efforts, contributing to better policy interventions for wildlife conservation in Assam. Shah will also virtually launch projects for the restoration and rejuvenation of Assam's wetlands under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund Scheme.
