The Indian Army's Western Command recently celebrated the 10th Defence Forces Veterans' Day with a series of special events. From January 14 to 18, the command organized Veterans' Rallies and outreach programs across Kangra, Amritsar, Ambala, Delhi, and the Tricity region. These activities demonstrated the army's deep respect and gratitude toward former service members.
Strengthening Support Systems for Veterans
Western Command has established concrete mechanisms to assist veterans. The command currently operates 41 Veterans Sahayata Kendras, which serve as single-window grievance redressal centers. Additionally, 79 Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme polyclinics provide quality medical care to veterans and their dependents.
Financial support for these facilities has increased significantly. During the previous year, authorities allocated more than five crore rupees. This year, they added another two and a half crore rupees to further enhance services.
Comprehensive Outreach Initiatives
The command organized large-scale Ex-Servicemen Rallies at Jammu and Ferozepur as part of its outreach efforts. Special attention continues for spinal-injured soldiers receiving care at the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre in Mohali. These soldiers receive sustained financial, medical, and psychological support.
In alignment with central government initiatives, Western Command has re-implemented Project NAMAN. This project strengthens institutional care and support mechanisms for veterans and Veer Naris.
Grand Veterans' Event at Chandimandir
On January 18, 2026, Western Command headquarters organized a major veterans' gathering at Chandimandir. Over one thousand veterans from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force attended the event. Participants came from Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali.
The gathering reinforced the strong bond between currently serving soldiers and veterans. The legacy of service and sacrifice by veterans continues to inspire future generations of military personnel.
