Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday asserted that the party would play the role of a proactive opposition in the state, focusing on raising people's issues and holding the government accountable. Speaking to reporters, Gogoi emphasized that the Congress would not be a passive opposition but would actively work to highlight the concerns of the people.
Commitment to People's Issues
Gogoi stated that the Congress party would prioritize the problems faced by the common man, including unemployment, inflation, and development issues. He said, "Our role is to ensure that the voices of the people are heard in the assembly and beyond. We will raise every issue that affects the lives of the people of Assam."
Accountability and Transparency
The Assam Congress chief also stressed the need for transparency and accountability in governance. He called on the state government to answer for its performance and to be open about its policies and decisions. "The government must be answerable to the people. We will demand answers on every matter that concerns the public," Gogoi added.
Gogoi's remarks come at a time when the Congress party is trying to revive its fortunes in Assam after consecutive electoral defeats. The party has been working on strengthening its organizational structure and reaching out to voters at the grassroots level.
- Gogoi highlighted the Congress's commitment to fighting for the rights of marginalized communities.
- He also mentioned that the party would focus on issues related to agriculture, education, and healthcare.
- The Congress will hold regular public meetings and interactions to understand people's grievances.
Gogoi concluded by saying that the Congress would be a responsible and constructive opposition, working not just to criticize but to offer viable alternatives and solutions. "We are here to serve the people and to ensure that Assam progresses under a democratic and accountable system," he said.
