Assam CS Directs Departments for 2 Lakh Jobs Roadmap

Guwahati: Chief Secretary (CS) Ravi Kota has directed all government departments to conduct detailed internal assessments of existing and potential upcoming vacancies. The departments must provide actionable inputs for preparing a five-year roadmap to generate and provide two lakh government jobs over the next five years.

Background of the Job Promise

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promised to provide two lakh government jobs in their election manifesto. The first cabinet meeting of the new government on May 13 decided to set up a task force to fulfill this commitment. On the same day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the task force, headed by the chief secretary, would submit a report within three months detailing the modalities for providing government jobs to two lakh individuals.

Review Meeting on Operationalisation

On Thursday, CS Kota held a detailed review meeting on the operationalisation of the task force, aligning with the spirit of the BJP manifesto and the cabinet decision. The meeting focused on mapping existing and upcoming vacancies across departments, field offices, autonomous bodies, colleges, and universities.

Kota stated, "Assessment of year-wise retirement projections and grade-wise vacancies at field offices, identification of direct recruitment vacancies across departments, rationalisation and streamlining of recruitment processes to ensure transparency and timely appointments, and measures to improve manpower availability in remote and difficult areas through suitable policy interventions and incentives were the other areas the meeting focused on."

Employment Targets and Monitoring Mechanisms

The deliberations also covered preparation of annual employment targets, department-wise projections, and robust implementation and monitoring mechanisms. These measures aim to ensure a structured, transparent, and future-oriented approach towards public employment in Assam.

The chief secretary added that over 1.64 lakh recruitments have already been made during the previous tenure (2021-2026) of the government through the Assam Direct Recruitment Exam and departmental recruitment processes.
