Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu has formally replied to a letter from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis concerning the tragic plane crash that claimed the life of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and five others on Wednesday. The response outlines the investigative steps being taken by central authorities.

Investigation Initiated with Black Box Secured

In his letter, Minister Naidu confirmed that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has commenced a thorough investigation into the incident. The aircraft's black box has been taken into custody as part of the procedural requirements. He emphasized that the inquiry will adhere to the Aircraft Accident and Incident Rules, ensuring it is conducted in a transparent and time-bound manner.

Maharashtra CM's Request for Inquiry and Prevention Measures

Chief Minister Fadnavis had written to the Union Minister, highlighting the loss of a very senior leader like Ajit Pawar along with four other individuals in the accident. His letter specifically requested:

  • An inquiry into the exact causes of the crash
  • Immediate steps to prevent similar accidents in the future

In response, Naidu assured that all technical records, operational details, and facts from the accident site are being meticulously examined to determine the root causes.

Future Safety Measures and State Cooperation

The Union Minister acknowledged the state government's concerns about prevention, stating, "The Ministry has taken note of your request to prevent such incidents in the future, and appropriate measures will be implemented once the investigation report is received." He further noted that cooperation from the Maharashtra government and local administration will be invaluable for the inquiry's success.

Naidu added that the complete investigation report will be shared with the state government upon completion, ensuring transparency and collaborative action.

Background of the Tragic Incident

Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), died when his chartered plane crashed on Wednesday morning in Baramati. He was en route to Baramati, an NCP stronghold, to attend a rally for the Zila Parishad elections. The crash resulted in the deaths of all six individuals on board, marking a significant loss for the state's political landscape.
