Bihar education minister Mithilesh Tiwari announced on Friday that the state government will dismiss over 3,000 teachers who have been found to possess fake degrees and forged educational certificates. The decision follows a detailed investigation into the credentials of teachers across the state.
Investigation Uncovers Widespread Fraud
During the investigation, it was discovered that some teachers had already resigned before disciplinary proceedings could be initiated against them. The minister stated that the government is taking strict action to ensure that only qualified individuals are employed in the education sector.
According to Tiwari, the verification process involved cross-checking documents with issuing universities and boards. Many teachers were found to have submitted fabricated mark sheets and degree certificates during their appointment.
Impact on Schools and Students
The dismissal of these teachers is expected to affect several schools across Bihar, particularly in rural areas. The education department is making arrangements to fill the vacancies through a fresh recruitment drive. Tiwari assured that the quality of education will not be compromised.
"We have identified over 3,000 teachers with fake degrees. They will be dismissed immediately. Some had already resigned, but we are still pursuing legal action against them," Tiwari said in a press conference.
Government's Zero-Tolerance Policy
The Bihar government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against educational fraud. This crackdown is part of a broader initiative to improve the standard of education in the state. The minister urged other states to follow suit and conduct similar verifications.
"This is a serious offense that undermines the education system. We will not spare anyone who has cheated the system," Tiwari added.
