The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, accusing him of holding a meeting with what it termed "enemies of India" during his recent visit to Germany. The party demanded full transparency regarding the engagements of the Leader of the Opposition with global actors abroad.
BJP Presents 'Proof', Links Meeting to George Soros
At a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, party national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia displayed a purported picture of Gandhi with Cornelia Woll, the president and a professor at Berlin's Hertie School. Bhatia described this as concrete "proof" of the Congress leader interacting with "anti-India forces in Germany".
Bhatia elaborated that Woll is a trustee of the Central European University, an institution he claimed is funded by the Open Society Foundation (OSF) of US-based billionaire investor George Soros. He directly questioned Gandhi about the nature of the "conspiracy" he was allegedly hatching against the nation by aligning with such forces. There was no immediate reaction from Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party to these allegations.
A Pattern of 'Anti-National' Activities Alleged
The BJP spokesperson raised pointed questions about Gandhi's foreign travels, asking why the Congress leader or his party does not make his itinerary public. "If anyone meets anti-India forces and insults Bharat from foreign soil, it's none other than Rahul," Bhatia charged. He went further, drawing a strong parallel by stating, "George Soros and Rahul Gandhi are two bodies but one soul."
Bhatia alleged that this was not an isolated incident. He claimed Gandhi has a habit of going abroad during or just before Parliamentary sessions to meet forces jealous of India's growth. "Rahul Gandhi has become Mir Zafar," Bhatia said, invoking the historical figure known for betrayal. He accused Soros of funding efforts to create unrest in India and attack its sovereignty, and lambasted Gandhi for his alleged association with such elements.
BJP IT Cell Head Joins the Fray, Calls for Scrutiny
Echoing the party line, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya took to social media platform X to state that Gandhi's Germany visit deserved "public scrutiny". He emphasized that the interaction with Cornelia Woll, linked to global funding networks associated with Soros, naturally raised questions.
"When the Leader of the Opposition engages with influential global actors abroad, transparency becomes essential," Malviya asserted. He stressed that public life demands accountability and urged the Congress to provide clear explanations instead of dismissing the concerns as conspiracy theories.
The BJP framed the issue as a matter of national concern, suggesting that forces unhappy with India's rising global stature under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership were spreading disinformation. This allegation marks a continuation of the party's past accusations against top Congress leaders for having links with Soros-funded organisations involved in "anti-India" activities.
