BJP Names B B Gopakumar as Parliamentary Party Leader in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Chathannur MLA B B Gopakumar was named the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary party leader in the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. The decision came after a deadlock between two senior leaders who both aspired for the position.

Leadership Tussle

According to party insiders, both state president and Nemom MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Kazhakkoottam MLA V Muraleedharan were keen on becoming the parliamentary party leader. However, neither was willing to accept the other as the leader in the assembly. Both Chandrasekhar and Muraleedharan have previously served as Union ministers, adding weight to their claims.

The central leadership of the BJP intervened to resolve the impasse, ultimately selecting Gopakumar as the parliamentary party leader in the house. Gopakumar had earlier been the party's candidate for the Speaker's post in the assembly.
