The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch nationwide celebrations to mark the birth centenary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The party's national general secretary, Arun Singh, announced a series of events scheduled from December 25, during a press conference at the state party headquarters in Bhopal on Saturday.
National Leadership to Lead Celebrations
Arun Singh detailed that the main event will be held in Lucknow on December 25, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the gathering. On the same day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to launch several development projects dedicated to Vajpayee's legacy in Gwalior and Rewa. Singh emphasized that these projects aim to give a new direction to development in the region.
Other senior leaders, including party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, BJP national working president Nitin Navin, and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, will participate in centenary year events organized across the country. Singh stated that Prime Minister Modi is taking the nation-building work initiated by Atal ji to new heights with renewed energy and momentum.
Grand Plans for Madhya Pradesh
In memory of the party patriarch, the BJP has planned extensive programs across Madhya Pradesh. Between December 25 and 31, Atal Memorial Conferences will be held in every assembly constituency of the state. The theme of these conferences will focus on Vajpayee's personality, his ideological journey in Madhya Pradesh, his model of good governance, and his vision for a developed India.
"These conferences will honor senior workers associated with Atal Behari Vajpayee since the Jan Sangh era, along with social leaders and prominent individuals from fields like education, science, and research who were in contact with him," explained Arun Singh.
Exhibitions and Public Engagement
Adding to the commemorative activities, exhibitions based on the life, thoughts, and works of the former Prime Minister will be held at all district BJP offices and major public places across Madhya Pradesh during the same week. These exhibitions, titled 'Our Atalji', 'Atalji of Madhya Pradesh', and 'Atal ji of India', are designed to showcase his towering personality and contributions, inspiring the public.
Preceding the main celebrations, on December 24, the eve of Vajpayee's birth anniversary, a cleanliness drive will be conducted at sites housing his statues. In the evening, a Deepotsav festival will be organized at all district BJP offices, marking the beginning of the centenary festivities.
The BJP's nationwide initiative underscores its commitment to celebrating the legacy of one of its most revered leaders, aiming to connect his vision of development with the party's current political and governance narrative.
