NEW DELHI: In the 2026 Assam Assembly Election, Dr. Rajdeep Roy of the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious from the Silchar constituency. He secured 1,10,758 votes, defeating Congress candidate Abhijit Paul by a significant margin of 53,997 votes. Paul managed to obtain 56,761 votes, while SUCI(C) candidate Bhabotosh Chakraborty finished third with only 707 votes. A total of eight candidates contested from Silchar, along with the NOTA option.
About Silchar Constituency
Silchar is one of the 126 seats in the Assam Legislative Assembly. Located in the Cachar district, it is a general category seat and forms part of the Silchar Lok Sabha segment. The constituency is predominantly urban, with approximately 85 per cent of its population residing in densely populated town areas. The remaining population lives in semi-urban and peri-urban localities.
Historical Election Results
In the 2021 assembly elections, BJP candidate Dipayan Chakraborty won the Silchar seat by defeating Congress nominee Tamal Kanti Banik with a margin of 37,578 votes. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Silchar parliamentary seat was secured by BJP's Parimal Suklabaidya, who defeated Congress candidate Surya Kanta Sarkar by a margin of 2,64,311 votes.
Voter Statistics
According to the Election Commission data, the Silchar constituency had a total of 2,34,821 voters in the 2021 Assembly elections. This included 1,15,715 male voters, 1,19,098 female voters, and eight third-gender voters.
