BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has firmly rejected allegations made by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding widespread post-poll violence in West Bengal. He asserted that the current situation is far less severe compared to the violence witnessed in 2021. Citing inputs from the state police, Adhikari stated that only 50 to 60 minor complaints have been received and fewer than 100 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered so far.
Adhikari drew a stark contrast with the 2021 post-election scenario, when over one lakh people were allegedly displaced and hundreds of safehouses were established to protect affected individuals. He maintained that the BJP has no need for violent actions, given its strong electoral performance in the recent assembly elections. While emphasizing that he does not support violence in any form, Adhikari reiterated that the party's focus remains on governance and development.
The TMC had earlier accused the BJP of orchestrating violence and intimidation against its workers and supporters after the election results. However, Adhikari dismissed these claims as baseless and politically motivated. He urged the TMC to provide concrete evidence to support its allegations instead of making unsubstantiated statements.
The political landscape in West Bengal remains tense, with both parties exchanging barbs over the issue of post-poll violence. The Election Commission has also taken note of the situation and ordered a crackdown on any unlawful activities. Meanwhile, the state police continue to monitor the law and order situation, ensuring that peace is maintained across the region.
