Buxar MP Accuses Centre of Neglecting Bihar in Union Budget 2026-27
The Union Budget 2026-27 has sparked intense political debate in Buxar, with RJD MP Sudhakar Singh launching a scathing attack on the central government for allegedly ignoring Bihar's development needs. Singh, representing Buxar constituency, claimed that the state only features in the Centre's priorities during election periods, with the latest budget making no specific reference to Bihar's unique challenges.
Development Schemes Exclude Most Bihar Districts
Singh argued that the budget's development schemes, which are linked to cities with populations exceeding five lakh, effectively exclude most districts in Bihar. He emphasized that villages, which form the economic backbone of the state, found no mention in the budgetary allocations. "This budget favors capitalists, select states, and electoral interests, not farmers, labourers, students, or the poor," Singh stated bluntly.
Railway Safety and Healthcare Concerns Highlighted
The RJD MP raised serious concerns about railway infrastructure in Bihar, pointing to overcrowded trains, unsafe travel conditions, and the continued presence of unmanned railway crossings. He noted the absence of new train services in the budget, which he said exacerbates transportation problems for Bihar's residents.
On healthcare, Singh highlighted unfulfilled promises regarding affordable cancer medicines and criticized the lack of a cancer super-specialty hospital in Bihar. This forces patients to seek expensive treatment outside the state, placing additional financial burdens on families. He also warned against the growing role of the private sector in healthcare and education, arguing it would disproportionately affect the poor and middle class.
Allegations of Regional Bias in Major Projects
Singh accused the Centre of favoring Gujarat and Maharashtra in the allocation of major projects, including textile parks, bullet trains, and mineral hubs. He suggested this regional bias undermines balanced national development and neglects states like Bihar that require substantial investment.
BJP Leader Defends Budget as Visionary
In contrast, BJP leader Varsha Pandey welcomed the Union Budget 2026-27, describing it as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a developed India. She praised the emphasis on capital investment, infrastructure development, job creation, and fiscal discipline, asserting that these measures would ensure sustainable long-term growth for the entire country.
Pandey argued that the budget's comprehensive approach benefits all states indirectly through national-level initiatives, rather than through state-specific allocations. The contrasting reactions in Buxar underscore the deep political divisions over the budget's impact on Bihar's development trajectory.
