Cachar District Implements Strict Security Measures for PM Modi's Silchar Visit

The Cachar district administration in Assam has announced a comprehensive set of security and traffic restrictions in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Silchar on March 14. Acting on specific security intelligence, the district magistrate has invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to enforce these measures, which are designed to ensure a safe and orderly environment for the high-profile event.

No-Fly Zone Declared Across Entire District

In a significant move, the administration has declared the entire Cachar district a no-fly zone from March 10 to March 15. This prohibition applies to all aerial devices, including remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), paragliders, and microlight aircraft. The decision is part of enhanced security protocols for the Prime Minister's visit, with authorities emphasizing that it aims to prevent any potential aerial threats.

All private and commercial operators have been strictly directed to refrain from flying drones or similar aerial devices anywhere within the district during this period. Exceptions will only be granted with prior written permission from the competent authority, subject to thorough security clearance. Officials have warned that violations will be dealt with severely under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which could lead to legal consequences.

Traffic Restrictions and No-Parking Zones

To facilitate the smooth movement of VVIP vehicles, the administration has also imposed traffic restrictions and designated specific stretches as no-parking zones from March 10 to 15. The affected areas include:

  • The route from ISBT Point to Mangal Pandey statue point, covering the Silchar Bypass-Hailakandi Road junction.
  • The stretch from ISBT Point to the ONGC campus at Srikona.

Vehicle owners and drivers have been instructed to avoid parking along these routes to prevent traffic disruptions and ensure efficient passage for the Prime Minister's convoy. The main venue for the PM's program has been fixed at Ambicapur Part-III along the Silchar bypass, necessitating these logistical adjustments.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

The district administration has issued a public appeal, urging residents, drone operators, and vehicle owners to cooperate fully with the restrictions. This collaboration is crucial for maintaining robust security arrangements and ensuring a seamless visit. Authorities have highlighted that these measures are temporary and essential for national security, with the goal of minimizing inconvenience while prioritizing safety.

As preparations intensify, the administration continues to monitor the situation closely, with additional security personnel deployed across key locations. The visit is expected to draw significant attention, given its political importance in the region, and these proactive steps reflect a commitment to safeguarding all participants and the local community.
