In a significant political development ahead of the second phase of voting, Sk Habib, a teacher and candidate from Humayun Kabir's 'Aam Janata Unnayan Party' in Uluberia South, has joined the Trinamool Congress. The move came after Habib accused his former party of exploiting Muslim sentiments for political gain.
Reasons for Switching Allegiance
Sheikh Habib explained his decision, stating, 'I joined Humayun's party thinking he genuinely wanted to do something for Muslims. But you can't understand everything from the outside. After becoming the candidate and interacting with him, I realised he created this party just to exploit Muslim sentiments. So, I joined Trinamool, trusting in the ideals of CM Mamata Banerjee.'
Joining Ceremony
On Saturday afternoon, Habib officially joined the Trinamool Congress in the presence of Pulak Roy, minister and Trinamool candidate from the Uluberia South constituency. This move is expected to strengthen the party's position in the region ahead of the upcoming polls.
