Accused Diverted Temple Funds for Personal Use
Sources have revealed that Avinash Shukla, the prime accused in the Ram temple fund theft case, misappropriated approximately Rs 19 lakh from the temple's funds, spending the money on friends and family. The revelations come as investigations into the financial irregularities at the Ayodhya temple continue.
Details of Expenditure
According to sources close to the investigation, Avinash transferred around Rs 2.5 lakh to a close friend. In addition, he gifted the same friend an expensive mobile phone, the cost of which is yet to be disclosed. The accused allegedly used the stolen funds to cover personal expenses and lavish gifts for his inner circle.
Investigation Underway
The Uttar Pradesh Police have been probing the case since the theft came to light. Officials have been examining bank records and transaction details to trace the flow of funds. The temple authorities had earlier reported a significant shortfall in the donation collections, prompting a formal complaint.
“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the guilty are brought to justice,” a senior police officer stated, requesting anonymity. The investigation has so far focused on Avinash’s financial dealings, with multiple witnesses being questioned.
Impact on Temple Trust
The incident has raised concerns about the management of funds at the Ram temple, which attracts millions of devotees and generates substantial donations. Temple trust officials have assured the public that they are implementing stricter financial controls to prevent such incidents in the future. “We have already initiated an internal audit and are working with law enforcement to recover the misappropriated amount,” a trust spokesperson said.
The case has also sparked political debate, with opposition parties demanding a thorough inquiry into the temple's financial management. However, the temple trust has maintained that the theft was an isolated act by a rogue employee.
