CBI Issues Fresh Notice to TVK President Vijay for Karur Stampede Inquiry

The Central Bureau of Investigation has issued a formal notice to TVK president Vijay. The agency wants him to appear again for questioning in the Karur stampede case. This fresh round of inquiry is scheduled for January 19.

Vijay Returns to Chennai After Delhi Appearance

Vijay appeared before the CBI at its headquarters in New Delhi on Monday. He returned to Chennai the very next day on Tuesday. The actor-politician faced detailed questioning during his Delhi visit.

CBI officials have now sought his presence for another round of interrogation. However, Vijay requested an exemption from this date. He cited the upcoming Pongal festival as his reason. The investigating agency accepted his request for a different date.

TVK Cites Multiple Commitments for Date Change

TVK joint general secretary C T R Nirmal Kumar spoke to reporters in Chennai. He had accompanied Vijay to Delhi for the initial questioning. Nirmal Kumar explained the party's position clearly.

The party sought a different date for several important reasons. Several Pongal-related programmes are scheduled for the coming week. Political meetings have been planned during this period. Discussions linked to the release of Vijay's film 'Jana Nayagan' are also underway.

TVK Maintains Stance on Political Alliances

Reporters asked Nirmal Kumar specific questions about political pressure. They wanted to know if the CBI inquiry was being conducted under BJP's direction. Another question focused on whether TVK's political position had shifted due to pressure.

Nirmal Kumar gave a firm response to these queries. "We have made it clear that there is no change in our position. That stance remains unchanged. Please treat that as final," he stated emphatically. TVK had previously called BJP an ideological enemy. This position remains firm according to party officials.

Focus on 'Jana Nayagan' Film Release

The TVK leader also addressed questions about Vijay's upcoming film. Nirmal Kumar said the people of Tamil Nadu want 'Jana Nayagan' to be released. Members of the film fraternity are eagerly awaiting the movie. Audience across India are looking forward to the film's release.

"Let the courts give their verdict. After that, we will answer all questions," he told reporters. This statement indicates the party's approach to legal matters surrounding the film.

Allegations Against State Government and Police

Earlier during the press conference, Nirmal Kumar outlined TVK's submissions to CBI. The party made serious allegations against the state government and police. They claimed that lapses on their part resulted in the tragic stampede.

Nirmal Kumar highlighted specific contradictions in government statements. Chief Minister M K Stalin told the assembly that 607 police personnel were deployed at the venue. However, DGP (Armed Police) Davidson Devasirvatham cited a different figure of 500 personnel. TVK has conveyed these discrepancies to the investigating agency.

The Karur stampede case continues to develop with these latest developments. Political observers are watching how this investigation progresses in the coming weeks.
