Punjab Congress leader and former minister Arora has accused the Centre of using central agencies to crush political rivals. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Arora claimed that the BJP-led government at the Centre is misusing investigative agencies to target opposition leaders and suppress dissent ahead of the upcoming elections.
Arora's Allegations
Arora stated that the recent actions of agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation are politically motivated. He cited examples of raids and summons issued to opposition leaders, alleging that these are aimed at weakening the opposition. 'The Centre is out to crush rivals and is using every tool at its disposal to silence those who question the government,' Arora said.
Response to BJP
The Congress leader also challenged the BJP to face the people instead of targeting opponents through agencies. He demanded that the government focus on issues like inflation, unemployment, and law and order rather than political vendetta. Arora further claimed that the people of Punjab are aware of these tactics and will reject the BJP in the upcoming elections.
Political Reactions
The allegations have drawn sharp reactions from the ruling BJP, which dismissed them as baseless. BJP spokesperson said that the agencies are independent and act only on evidence. 'The Congress is trying to divert attention from its own failures and corruption,' the spokesperson added.
The issue is likely to escalate as elections approach, with both sides trading charges. Arora's statements have reignited the debate over the use of central agencies in Indian politics.
