Patna: State Congress functionaries and workers, led by the party's state chief Rajesh Ram, staged a protest on Thursday over the killing of Bihar youth Pandav Kumar in Delhi by a police personnel. They also demanded justice for 10-year-old Roshni, who was killed in Patna City.
Protest at Party Headquarters
The demonstration was organized at the gate of the party's state headquarters. Rajesh Ram was joined by senior party leaders including Poonam Paswan, Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Rajesh Rathore, and Brajesh Kumar Munnan, among others.
Allegations Against Police
The leaders alleged that the Patna City police registered a First Information Report (FIR) to suppress a peaceful protest organized by party functionary S Shekhar, who had been demanding justice for Roshni. They claimed that the police action was an attempt to stifle dissent and deny justice to the victims' families.
Background of the Incidents
Pandav Kumar, a young man from Bihar, was killed in Delhi following an encounter with a police personnel. The incident sparked outrage among political circles and civil society. Meanwhile, the killing of 10-year-old Roshni in Patna City had already drawn widespread condemnation. The Congress party has been vocal in demanding accountability and fair investigation in both cases.
Demands for Justice
The protesters demanded a thorough inquiry into both deaths and strict action against the guilty. They also called for compensation to the families of the victims. Rajesh Ram stated that the party would continue to fight for justice until the perpetrators are brought to book.
This protest is part of a series of demonstrations by the Congress party across Bihar, highlighting issues of law and order and police accountability. The party has also raised the matter in the state assembly and plans to take it up with the central government.
