New Delhi: The heat continues to grip the national capital as the hottest areas recorded temperatures exceeding 42 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that maximum temperatures may reach 45 degrees Celsius over the next two days. However, no heatwave warning has been issued so far.
Temperature Trends
On Saturday, the maximum temperature at the base station Safdarjung was recorded at 40.8 degrees Celsius, up from 39.8 degrees Celsius a day earlier. Ridge experienced the highest temperature at 42.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Ayanagar at 41.6 degrees Celsius and Lodhi Road at 41.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, compared to 26.2 degrees Celsius the previous day.
Forecast for Coming Days
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42-44 degrees Celsius today, and may further rise to 43-45 degrees Celsius on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Despite the extreme heat, the weather department expects thunderstorms with gusty winds this evening.
The combination of high temperatures and expected thunderstorms indicates a volatile weather pattern. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.
