Delhi Metro Yellow Line Faces Major Disruption During Morning Rush
Services on the Delhi Metro's Yellow Line were severely disrupted for approximately one and a half hours during Monday's morning rush hour, causing significant inconvenience to thousands of commuters. The disruption occurred due to a "passenger on track" incident at Vishwavidyalaya station, leading to regulated train operations and widespread delays.
Crowds and Delays Plague Commuters
Large crowds were observed on platforms as commuters waited anxiously for trains to resume. In a post on X, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed the delay, stating, "Delay in train services on Yellow line due to passenger on track at Vishwavidyalaya metro station." According to news agency PTI, train services were regulated on the Yellow Line for safety reasons following the incident, resulting in longer waiting times and overcrowding at several stations along the corridor during the peak morning period.
Commuters Express Frustration Over Inconvenience
A commuter named Amit highlighted the disruption's impact during office hours, saying, "It's office time and there is a huge rush. Even when trains are coming, they are too crowded to board easily." Another commuter added to the concerns, noting, "It's already getting late and there is no clarity on how long this will continue. Many of us may not be able to reach office on time today." These statements underscore the frustration faced by daily travelers relying on the metro for their commute.
Normal Services Restored After Safety Measures
Normal services were eventually restored on the Yellow Line after one and a half hours, as confirmed by the DMRC. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges in managing urban transit systems during emergencies, emphasizing the importance of passenger safety and efficient crisis response protocols to minimize disruptions in busy metropolitan areas like Delhi.
