Chennai: The DMK mouthpiece Murasoli on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, particularly criticizing Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for what it termed a 'lack of gratitude' after his party moved out of the DMK-led alliance and partnered with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu.
Editorial Highlights DMK-Congress Ties Since 2018
In its editorial, Murasoli recalled the longstanding relationship between the DMK and Congress since 2018, when then Chief Minister M K Stalin first proposed Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate. The editorial questioned whether Rahul had any gratitude for that gesture, emphasizing the DMK's pivotal role in nurturing the alliance.
Stalin's Role in Building INDIA Bloc
The editorial further noted that the seeds for the INDIA bloc were sown in Tamil Nadu, with Stalin taking the initiative to forge a national opposition alliance against the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It claimed that the INDIA bloc was instrumental in preventing the BJP from reaching its target of 370 or 400 seats. The DMK asserted that even when other former chief ministers like K Chandrashekar Rao and Mamata Banerjee opposed including Congress in the bloc, Stalin remained firm on keeping Congress as part of the alliance.
Allegations of Targeting DMK Government
The editorial alleged that Congress members, including Praveen Chakravarty, who were close to Rahul Gandhi, repeatedly targeted the DMK government and its 'Dravidian model' of governance. It claimed that the DMK government was not allowed to function peacefully and that all these actions occurred with Rahul's knowledge.
The sharp critique underscores the growing rift between the two parties in Tamil Nadu, which could have implications for opposition unity at the national level.
