Father-Son Booked for Beating Stray Dog in Rajkot

A father-son duo was booked for allegedly beating a stray dog mercilessly with a stick and a plastic pipe in the Ghanteshwar area on Friday night. The University police registered a case against Mahendra Jadeja and his son Abhiraj, residents of Ghanteshwar Park, under provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act on a complaint by local resident Krina Parmar.

Complaint and Incident

In her complaint, Parmar alleged that the two were mercilessly beating the stray dog. When she tried to intervene and stop them, they allegedly abused her and also assaulted her.

Background of the Dispute

Police said the incident appears to have stemmed from a dispute among neighbours over the canine. While some residents had complained that the animal was chasing children in the area, others, who described themselves as "dog lovers", had been regularly feeding and caring for the dog.
