An FIR was registered against Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai, former Congress committee secretary Brijraj Ahirwar, and 30 unidentified Congress supporters in Mahoba district over alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and violation of public order during a political gathering on May 22.
Details of the FIR
According to the FIR submitted at Kotwali Nagar police station in Mahoba by Neeraj Rawat, a BJP district working committee member and social-political activist, a programme was organised at the residence of Rajkumar Ahirwar in Samad Nagar locality without prior administrative permission. Neeraj Rawat alleged that Ajay Rai arrived at the venue with a convoy of 15-16 vehicles and around 25-30 supporters.
The complaint stated that the vehicles were parked disorderly on a public road, causing traffic obstruction and inconvenience to residents. It further alleged that police and government personnel had to leave their assigned duties to maintain law and order and regulate traffic at the venue.
Allegations of Derogatory Remarks
Neeraj accused Ajay Rai of making “objectionable and abusive” remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the programme. According to the complaint, a video of the alleged remarks has gone viral on social media, triggering anger among local BJP workers and residents. The FIR alleged that the statements could incite caste-based discord and disturb communal harmony. A pen drive containing the purported viral video was submitted as evidence.
Legal Provisions Invoked
Police invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from duty), 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 196(1) (promoting enmity between groups), and 352 (breach of peace) against Ajay Rai, Brijraj Ahirwar, and 25-30 unidentified supporters, said Vandana Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mahoba. She added that further legal action would follow after verification of allegations and examination of the video evidence.
