Four Children Drown in Chikkamagaluru Pond, One Rescued

Chikkamagaluru: Four children, including a girl, died after they drowned in a pond in Chikkamagaluru's Araluguppe on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rehaman, 9, Nayaz, 12, Madina Banu, 9, and Ahran, 8. Another boy, Arman, was rescued by locals and is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

According to the Chikkamagaluru Rural police, the children had visited the waterbody for swimming and playing with ducks when the accident occurred. The drowning was accidental, and foul play has been ruled out. The rescued boy is in stable condition.

All the bodies have been shifted to the mortuary at the district hospital. After postmortem examinations and other formalities, the bodies will be handed over to the parents, a police officer said. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem reports are received.

Madina Banu was a resident of Shivamogga, while the other three children were locals of Araluguppe. The incident has left the community in shock, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
