A tragic road accident on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway near Perambalur claimed the life of a five-year-old girl and left several others injured on Saturday. The incident occurred when a government bus collided with an overloaded tipper tractor.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as R Gunashree, a resident of Kuyilapalayam village in Cuddalore district. She was part of a group of 13 individuals from villages around Panruti who were traveling in the tipper tractor. The group was returning from work in Karur to Cuddalore when the accident took place.
Details of the Collision
According to police reports, N Balashankar was driving the tractor. As the vehicle passed near the Padalur overpass in Perambalur district around 5am, a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus traveling from Kanyakumari to Chennai rammed into the tractor from behind at high speed. The impact was severe, causing the occupants of the tractor to be thrown out, resulting in multiple injuries.
Gunashree died on the spot due to the injuries sustained. The injured individuals were immediately rushed to Perambalur General Hospital for medical treatment. The girl's body was also taken to the hospital for an autopsy.
Bus Driver and Passengers
The SETC bus was being driven by S Suresh Kumar, 50, from Pandalakudi near Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district. Fortunately, none of the bus passengers sustained any injuries in the collision.
Legal Action
The Padalur police have registered a case against the bus driver for rash driving, endangering lives, and causing death by negligence. The investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and to ensure that appropriate legal action is taken.
