Congress MLA from Baroda, Induraj Singh Narwal, has urged the Haryana Chief Electoral Officer to extend the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming that the 2002 voter lists for nearly 38 villages in his constituency are unavailable on the Election Commission's online portal.
Allegations of missing voter records
In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer, Narwal stated that the SIR campaign, conducted from June 15 to July 14, involves matching the 2002 electoral rolls with the 2024 voter lists. However, for around 38 villages under the Mundlana and Kathura blocks of Sonepat district, the online portal displays only the 1999 voter list instead of the required 2002 rolls.
The MLA warned that the absence of the 2002 electoral rolls has hampered the verification of eligible voters and affected the ongoing revision process. He emphasized that if the voter lists are not made available immediately, the verification exercise may not be completed before the July 14 deadline, potentially depriving several eligible voters of their franchise.
Demand for extension and immediate action
Narwal has requested the Election Commission and state election authorities to upload the 2002 voter lists for the affected villages without delay. He also urged them to extend the duration of the SIR campaign in those areas to ensure that no eligible voter is denied the constitutional right to vote.
The Congress MLA stressed that the missing records could disenfranchise many voters, especially those whose names appear only in the 2002 rolls. He called for immediate corrective measures to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
