An HRTC conductor posted at the Keylong Depot died in a tragic accident on the morning of July 2, 2026, after being struck by a falling rock near Karpat, also known as Dhonandhal Nallah, in Lahaul and Spiti district.

Victim identified as Gyan Singh

The deceased has been identified as Gyan Singh, a resident of Mandi district. According to officials, the incident occurred while he had stopped near the roadside to wash his hands and face. During that time, a rock fell from the hillside and struck him on the head, causing fatal injuries.

Rushed to hospital but declared dead

Following the incident, Gyan Singh was rushed to the Regional Hospital in Keylong, where doctors declared him dead. His body was brought to the hospital for postmortem examination.

HRTC official confirms incident

Regional Manager of HRTC Keylong, Anshit Sharma, confirmed that the unfortunate incident took place today. He said the postmortem had been completed and, after the required legal formalities, the body was handed over to the deceased’s family members for the last rites.

MLA expresses condolences

Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. She directed the HRTC and the Health Department to extend all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
