Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Wednesday addressed the controversy surrounding the mention of his father's name during the swearing-in ceremony, asserting that there was nothing unusual about it. He dismissed all allegations and emphasized that using his full name is natural, as the same format is employed in official documents, including his passport.
Satheesan's Clarification
Satheesan explained that his parents had passed away even before he became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). He mentioned his father's full name to honor their memory. He also expressed a desire to include his mother's name but did not get an opportunity to do so, which saddened him. He stated that he mentions his parents' names with pride.
The Chief Minister's remarks came in response to criticism from opposition parties, who claimed that the inclusion of his father's name was a deviation from protocol. Satheesan reiterated that the practice is consistent with standard procedures used in official documentation.
Political Reactions
The controversy had sparked debates in political circles, with some questioning the propriety of the act. However, Satheesan's clarification has put the matter to rest, as he provided a clear and logical explanation for his actions. He emphasized that his intention was to pay tribute to his parents, who played a significant role in his life.
Satheesan's statement underscores the importance of personal sentiments in public life, while also adhering to established norms. The incident highlights the sensitivity surrounding such matters in Indian politics.
