West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has cast doubt on the credibility of exit poll predictions, asserting that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is poised to secure a decisive victory with more than 226 seats. In a video message released on Friday, she accused pollsters of bias and questioned their neutrality, claiming that many surveys are manipulated to favour opposition parties.
Mamata's Strong Message to Party Workers
Banerjee issued a stern directive to TMC workers, urging them to guard electronic voting machines (EVMs) around the clock and remain present at all counting centres until the final results are declared on May 4. She emphasized the need for vigilance, citing concerns over potential discrepancies during the counting process. "We cannot afford to be complacent. Every vote must be protected," she said in the address.
Exit Poll Predictions Dismissed
The Chief Minister dismissed exit poll projections that suggest a close contest between the TMC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She reiterated that the TMC's performance in the assembly elections would surpass expectations, driven by the party's development agenda and the overwhelming support of the people. Banerjee thanked voters for the record turnout, which she described as a testament to the public's faith in democracy.
Political Atmosphere Intensifies
Banerjee's remarks have further heightened the political temperature in West Bengal ahead of the counting day. The TMC has repeatedly raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, while the BJP has dismissed these allegations as attempts to undermine democratic institutions. The counting of votes for the 294 assembly seats will take place on May 4, with results expected to shape the political landscape of the state for the next five years.
