Speaking to the media in Imphal, Singh emphasized that the majority of Manipur's population wants normalcy to return. He urged all sections of society to work together to overcome the challenges facing the state.

"The people of Manipur have suffered enough. They want peace and stability. We must not let anyone with a hidden agenda disrupt the ongoing efforts to restore harmony," the Chief Minister said.

Background of the crisis

Manipur has been grappling with ethnic tensions and violence since May 2023, leading to loss of lives, displacement of thousands, and severe economic disruption. The state government has been implementing various measures to restore order and facilitate dialogue between communities.

According to official figures, over 200 people have died and more than 60,000 have been displaced in the conflict. The Centre has deployed additional security forces and appointed interlocutors to mediate peace talks.

Economic impact

The prolonged unrest has severely affected Manipur's economy, with trade and tourism taking a major hit. Local businesses have reported significant losses, and the state's GDP growth has slowed considerably.

"The economic damage is immense. We need peace to revive our economy and ensure a better future for our youth," Singh added.

Call for collective action

The Chief Minister called upon political parties, civil society organizations, and community leaders to rise above partisan interests and work towards a lasting solution. He assured that the government is committed to addressing the legitimate concerns of all communities.

"Let us not allow those who profit from chaos to succeed. Every citizen has a role to play in building a peaceful Manipur," he concluded.
