Deputy CM Maurya Inaugurates Ashoka Edict Replicas in Prayagraj, Lauds Buddha's Timeless Wisdom
Prayagraj: Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya inaugurated meticulously crafted replicas of the historic edicts of Emperor Ashoka during a solemn ceremony held at Samrat Harshvardhan Buddha Vihar in Arail, Naini, on Saturday. In his address, Maurya eloquently emphasized that the profound teachings of Lord Buddha continue to serve as an unwavering beacon, guiding society steadfastly towards the core values of morality, boundless compassion, and enduring peace.
India as a Global Spiritual Epicenter
"India's sacred and hallowed land is profoundly enriched by the intense penance and transformative teachings of Buddha," Maurya declared. "It remains a vital and revered centre of spiritual learning and enlightenment for the entire world." The deputy chief minister underscored the Uttar Pradesh government's dedicated and continuous efforts aimed at the comprehensive development and global promotion of major Buddhist pilgrimage centres. He specifically referenced historically and spiritually significant sites including Sarnath, Kushinagar, Bodh Gaya, Shravasti, and Sankisa.

Maurya further elaborated on the significance of the newly installed replicas, stating that the edicts of Emperor Ashoka stand as invaluable and timeless symbols of India's rich history and deep cultural heritage. He noted that these ancient inscriptions convey powerful, universal messages of shared humanity, global peace, and ethical living that resonate as strongly today as they did centuries ago.
Comprehensive Tour of Buddha Vihar Premises
During his extensive visit to the Buddha Vihar premises, Deputy CM Maurya conducted a detailed inspection of several key locations within the expansive complex. His tour included a close examination of the boundary structure surrounding the premises. He personally viewed the newly installed replicas of the Ashokan edicts, the sacred Bodhi tree, the serene stupa, and the principal statue of Gautam Buddha, which holds the distinction of being the first statue ever installed within the Vihar.
Maurya also observed statues honoring Emperor Ashoka and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. His inspection extended to places historically associated with Bhikkhu Mahendra Thera and Bhikkhuni Sanghamitra. Additionally, he visited the administrative office and the tranquil Dhamma Hall. Throughout the visit, members of the Bhikkhu Sangha of the Vihar provided the deputy chief minister with a comprehensive briefing on the institution's multifaceted activities and its ongoing spiritual mission.
