Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has extended his best wishes to his Assam counterpart and 'brother', Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took the oath of office as the chief minister of the neighboring state for a second consecutive term on Tuesday.
CM Sangma, who also serves as the president of the ruling National People's Party (NPP), a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), attended the swearing-in ceremony of Sarma at Khanapara in Guwahati. He was accompanied by his two deputy chief ministers and party colleagues, Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar.
"Glad to witness the swearing-in ceremony of my brother, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma ji as he takes oath as the CM of Assam for a second consecutive term. Wishing him immense success," wrote Conrad, who heads the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government 2.0, on his social media handle.
In addition to his public message, Sangma's presence at the ceremony underscored the strong political ties between the two northeastern states. The NPP, under Sangma's leadership, has been a key ally of the BJP at the national level, and the relationship between the two chief ministers has often been described as fraternal.
Sarma's second term begins amid expectations of continued development and stability in Assam. The ceremony was attended by several other dignitaries from the region, highlighting the collaborative spirit among northeastern states.
