The organiser of Lionel Messi's cancelled India tour has filed a police complaint against former West Bengal minister Aroop Biswas and a former senior police officer, accusing them of sabotaging the event. The complaint was lodged just hours after the newly appointed sports minister of the BJP government, Nisith Pramanik, announced his decision to reopen the Messi case and order a fresh investigation into the fiasco.
The complainant, identified as Dutta, alleged that Biswas and the former top cop conspired to derail the much-anticipated tour, which was scheduled to take place in Kolkata. The event, which was expected to draw massive crowds and generate significant revenue, was abruptly cancelled last year, sparking widespread disappointment and controversy.
Fresh probe ordered
Minister Pramanik stated that the previous probe was insufficient and that the new investigation would look into all aspects of the cancellation, including potential foul play. He emphasised that the government is committed to transparency and ensuring that those responsible for any wrongdoing are held accountable.
The complaint has been filed at a local police station, and authorities have confirmed that they will examine the evidence before deciding on further action. Biswas and the former police official have not yet commented on the allegations.
This development marks a new chapter in the ongoing saga surrounding Messi's cancelled tour, which has been a subject of political debate and public scrutiny in West Bengal. The case is expected to draw significant attention as the investigation unfolds.
