A day after a fire incident at software firm Tech Mahindra in Sholinganallur, the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services conducted a mock drill at the 92-metre-high World Trade Centre building on Old Mahabalipuram Road near Semmancherry on Saturday. The two-hour-long exercise was carried out under the supervision of Fire and Rescue Director and DGP Seema Agarwal, with around 50 residents participating.
Details of the Mock Drill
A team of 20 fire personnel created artificial smoke conditions and demonstrated rescue operations using a 104-foot skylift. They also carried out a rescue simulation involving a person trapped inside a smoke-filled area. The drill aimed to enhance preparedness and response capabilities in high-rise buildings.
Tech Mahindra Fire Incident
Regarding the fire at the Tech Mahindra premises, an official stated that five fire tenders were deployed to the location after receiving the emergency call. Inspection revealed that the fire originated from scrap materials dumped in an open area and inside dilapidated structures. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, and no injuries were reported, said the official.
